Tell us why: “I have been going to SMVC since I moved here 10 years ago. I wouldn’t go anywhere else, unless I absolutely HAD to. They are kind, friendly, accomodating; I trust them and that means everything when putting my animal companions in the care of others.”

Tell us why: “The practice is well run. The doctor did a great job communicating with me. Some vets in the area seem to recommend unnecessary procedures / overcharge. I don’t get that impression from your vets or staff.”

"Excellent experience. New patient forms can be filled out online and reminders sent via text. Special parking outside expedites emergencies. A very helpful, experienced staff keeps patients flowing in and out smoothly from arrival to departure. My 19-yo cat, Moco, was seen by Dr. Cortez who was very personable and caring. She patiently answered all my questions and gave me an honest assessment of Moco's situation and overall health. We were in and out efficiently and quickly. Moco was his usual ornery self but I was very happy with the entire experience."

"We had to put our 13 y/o much loved rescue mutt old girl to sleep for to leg paralysis and other health probs. Dr Purver was so gentle and have her plenty of good sleepy relax drugs first so I'm sure she went peacefully. Really could not have asked for better. DEFINITELY BETTER THAN ALOHA ANIMAL HOSPITAL, our dog we took there about 5 years ago had seizures when they put him to sleep, like they have him no anasthetic or?!???"

"Since I started taking my pets here I have had a great experience. The staff are responsive and go above and beyond. When my pets had emergencies they squeeze in same day appointments whenever possible. If they cannot see them, their emergency vet recommendations are very good and cost effective. They've supported my pets through injuries, seizures and a urinary blockage. They've also diagnosed heart problems and done routine dentals. All were done professionally and at a fair cost compared to other local clinics. Vet clinics around the county are very busy and I appreciate everything the staff here do for my pets."

"I love this place! I’ve been taking my Pitbull here for years. The staff and Doctors are always friendly and willing to work within your budget. We just got a new puppy and are doing their new puppy package. It includes 3 visits where all types of services are provided. Let me tell you, it is a deal. I’ve never had a problem getting ahold of them and never have had them run late to boot!"

"We love San Marcos Veterinarian clinic because all the doctors there love are dogs and are concerned for are dogs health. They give us a prognosis of what are dogs need to get healthy again and we feel good about what we spent because sometimes its a lot of money. We had to put down are dog and cat in different times. They really do a great job of making you feel as comfortable as possible knowing how we loved are animals. I would recommend San Marcos Veterinarian clinic to anyone."

"Recently moved to the area and was looking for a vet for our 3 dogs. I've been impressed with San Marcos Veterinary Clinic so far. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Like most businesses they have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic and created a safe model to interact with them from dropping off your pet to talking with the vet about their visit afterwards. I would highly recommend them and am happy to have found a great place to take care of our kids."

"Great team of vets - would especially recommend Dr Andy Ichord. He always follows up promptly and gives the best guidance on how to care for our pets. Normally, I have great interactions with front desk staff, but just got off the phone with Lisa to make appointment for my dog and she was very curt and impatient. Understandably, things may be tough during current covid pandemic, but would encourage the staff to still treat people kindly as everyone is going through a hard time together. And if we're calling you to bring our pets in, it's because something is wrong with our loved ones, not because we want to annoy you."

"We are extremely happy with our experience using San Marcos Veterinary clinic for both preventative care and health issues for our two dogs. We have been taking our dogs to the clinic for the past 3 years. Out of all of the vets we've used in the past, San Marcos veterinary clinic has been the best by far and since we found them it is the only veterinary clinic we use. One of our dogs, a little Maltese, has had multiple health issues over the years. Doctor Ichord and Dr. Purvis have given her the best possible care and recommendations with each and every one of her ailments and at a very reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Scheduling has been easy and their communication is great! I HIGHLY recommend them!!"

"I recently adopted a rescue and after bringing him home, he started scratching/nibbling as part of his grooming repertoire. However he would nibble on his dew claws and irritated one pretty badly. I called San Marcos Veterinary Clinic based on Yelp reviews and their hours. I was going to stick with the fine folks at Petco but I wanted a vet who is available earlier (eg the vet at Petco wasn't available until 10am). My cat's health is a very urgent matter to me! 🙂 Anyway after taking Aki to see Dr. Ichord for a check-up and a look at his dew claws, he thought Aki might be suffering allergies. He asked me a bunch of questions like is he an indoor cat, what do I feed him, where does he sleep, etc. He also checked four times for fleas. Thankfully he has no fleas. Dr. Ichord gave my little "brother" a couple of injections to see if it would help alleviate some of his itching. When I adopted Aki I was told he was micro-chipped but didn't know the number. Dr. Ichord determined Aki wasn't chipped and gave Aki one for a reasonable price. His staff also created his profile with the Micro-chipping firm for me - what a great touch! It's only been a couple of days but Aki's dew claws look better and while he still itches, it's not as bad as before. I would definitely recommend SMVC to anyone!"

"I took my pittie-lab to the SM Vet Clinic for her physical and rabies vaccination. I was instructed to park around the back and call on arrival. A vet tech came out and took my Katie in for her exam and shot. Dr. Ichord came out to my car and reviewed his findings, assuring me all is well with Katie. He reviewed the proposed vaccinations and decided she did not need one of them, but would still get the rabies one, as it is the law. He was so kind and caring and reassuring and I told him how much I appreciated that and how much I trust him. After all was one, a vet tech brought Katie back to my car and told me she ran laps in the office with her [Katie can be a little hyper at times]. She then made sure she was securely fastened in the back seat of my car. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the good care everyone at the San Marcos Veterinary Clinic gives to Katie. I have had many pets [fur family members] and I absolutely know the difference in ordinary care and EXTRAORDINARY care. Thank you all at the San Marcos Vet Clinic. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for the best care for their furbaby."

"This small vet clinic is wonderful. I transferred my dog's care here after my old vet moved and jacked up his prices to where I could no longer afford him. I love the small, non-pretentious location here at San Marcos Veterinary Clinic (which holds their costs down for us consumers!) with 3 wonderfully competent and compassionate vets who all went to vet school together. I could care less about any fancy offices...I prefer good staff and vets at reasonable rates. Their rates are reasonable, the staff is lovely, and the vets are fabulous."

"Great place for your pooch, cat or other domesticated friend! All of the staff is pleasant and helpful, the vets are awesome at what they do and the pricing is fair and reasonable. They are willing to write prescriptions and allow you to take them to your pharmacy to fill them if you want to save some significant money (not like those other vets with multiple locations that train their staff to push hard for you to buy from them and lay on the guilt if you don't go with their high priced options!). We have been bringing our dogs here for several years and we never have had a problem or issues with this business. Highly recommended!"

"The best vet I’ve ever had! My dog was bit by another dog and needed a second surgery because she developed an infection from the first surgery. Dr. Purvis and Dr. Campbell did the surgery and took great care of her. Dr. Purvis called me to inform me of my dogs progress and sent me home feeling relieved that she would be ok. She also gave me very detailed care instructions and made it so easy for me in such a stressful situation. They even made accommodations for my husband and I to drop her off for additional care after surgery which helped tremendously since we both work full time. They go above and beyond to take care of you and your pet. They also gave me a towel when I took her home since she was bleeding a little after her surgery. These simple touches mean so much because I was worried she would be bleeding in the car. Thank you all at San Marcos Veterinary Clinic for making Bella feel better again!"

It’s such a blessing to not have to worry, and always know my pets are taken care of. Dr. Ichord and his team are always thorough and friendly, every time! 4/29/20: Update I love Dr. Ichord and the staff at San Marcos Vet Clinic. In these difficult times during the Lockdown, the office has made appointments for issues a breeze! An assistant gently picked my pet up from my car. After the exam by Dr. Ichord, he called me to explain the exam and offered solutions. After treatment, my pet was returned to my car and we were good to go! It couldn’t have gone smoother! "My dog is my family and my life, I completely trust the care that San Marcos Vet Clinic provides. Everyone in the office is so kind and patience. The prices are very reasonable and I never leave feeling like I have been charged for something unreasonable (or over charged), which has been my experience at other vet offices. The Vets and Vet Techs do a wonderful job explaining all the techincalities of any diagnoses or procedure. I have come into contact with a majority of the vets or staff at one point or another, and everyone that I have come into contact with have been great."

"When my family and I first moved here to San Diego, a co-worker recommended SMVC and they were wonderful with Bouncer until he passed away. Although I live in Ramona, I still make the drive to SMVC as they have always kind to me and my little loves. They saw me through one pup's bone cancer until she passed away. They are currently there for me for my other pup who has stomach and liver cancer in addition to heart disease and major arthritis. Their staff are great at answering any questions I have and have been awesome at accommodating any requests. As long as I live here in SoCal, I will continue to see SMVC!!"

"This is the second time I have been to your clinic and both times I have left blown away. The staff is all friendly and helpful. Both Doctors I have seen were kind and reassuring and didn't try to run a million tests that were unnecessary. My options were made clear to me as well as the cost. If that weren't enough I can't begin to explain the relief when I saw the bill both times!! Could not recommend them any more!!!"

"San Marcos Veterinary Clinic is amazing. We truly love Dr. Campbell and Amber. Our dog just had his 1st dental cleaning it was reasonably priced. Everyone was amazing and although I was a bit nervous since I knew he would be sedated I knew he was surrounded by the best team. They took wonderful care of him! "Dr Ichord is an Awesome Veterinarian! This Clinic has the most reasonable rates I've ever found. I was referred by close friend. Office visits are only $38.00!!! A teeth cleaning is less than half of what my previous Vet charges. The care is excellent! The location leaves a bit to be desired, but they're getting permits to build a brand new Clinic. Easy to overlook the age of the office to receive such fabulous care for my Babies!"

"This is seriously the only place I trust with my sweet senior cat, who's had a fair amount of health issues over the years. Dr. Ichord and everyone really do their best to keep pet healthcare costs low and patients informed. They lay out every option when it comes to caring for your furbabies. I'm never waiting more than a few mins for an appt, either. All 3 doctors are great people and you can tell they're doing what they do because they want to help animals. Can't say enough about this place. The prices, doctors, staff, and level of care are outstanding. Highly recommended."

"What a refreshing change from the ridiculously expensive VCA chain. I had a brief and very professional visit with Dr. Ichord for a referral to the local hernia specialist, Dr. Daniel Frankel, the second time I've needed his services. This is one of several offices he's associated with in San Diego County. The quote for the best and most experienced in town was approximately half the VCA estimate [and their first 'free' consultation set me back $440!]. I couldn't quite believe how low this initial consultation was.... not the typical vet bill surprise. Worth a drive, but try to plan to avoid rush hour traffic when you are coming from some distance."

"I've been coming to this office for 20 years! While it's changed ownership in the last few years they have made great improvement and have grown the practice. Just a couple of things. As technology becomes more advanced and the practice grows, I'm sure it's hard to keep that small town Vet office feel. Probably nearly impossible. I avoid calling during non office hours as the answering service isn't always that "with it" perhaps that's because the girls in the front office are so good. Also, today I had to pay in advance for services. I understand in my head why this could be (maybe people not paying after dropping their dog off has become common). I'm sure I'll spend the $100.00 they charged me however if I don't then it'll take 3 days to refund the money. I'm so sad that the world has come to this and that my favorite Vet has to resort to this. Money is tight for me and this will cause me to have to think again when I have to drop my dog off."

There are not enough good words you can say about them and the great service they provide for our pets and people too. I recently brought in one of our dogs, for what appeared to be a long standing, off and on again problem. I had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Purvis. All I can say is "Wow!" "Dr Ichord is an expert at diagnosing my cats' complicated health problems, he seems to genuinely love animals, and he is so reasonably priced. I drive an hour to get here, because this is the only veterinarian I trust with my animals. The only time I go to any other vet is when one of my cats have an after hours emergency. "We had a very sick little baby puppy that was overlooked twice at a different clinic. When we brought our puppy here, we were taken back right away and treated with respect and he was given the attention, love and care he needed. When we had to put him down 2 days later, they were warm and sincere. We know they did all they could, I wish we had seen them first. I don't know it would have made a difference but our puppy would not have suffered like he had. Such a nice caring staff with Vetrianarian's who spend the time and make the effort with our fur babies."

"This vet is the best ever. A super guy. We would highly recommend him. He has taken great care of our dogs for almost the last three years. He was so supportive a few years again when we had to have one euthanized because he had a brain tumor and was in pain and was suffering. This vet is very feeling, cares about his animal patients and their owners. He is the kind of guy I feel good about leaving money with. He is very reasonable. He should have 5 stars except for that one review that was from the previous vet. It's too bad that one can't be deleted."

"My fiance took our dog hear for an ear infection...from what I was told, the vet was extremely professional and polite. He professionally cleaned Maples ear and gave us antibiotics to use. We left only paying $95, but the best part is that Maples ear got better within a day after seeing the vet (and her infection was pretty bad to start with). We will be coming here again if need be."

"I was waken up by my puppy one morning to find that he had a (in my opinion) huge bump in his ear. I was referred to this clinic by a friend and wanted to take him there to get it all looked at. I just walked in a few minutes after opening with my pup and they got me right in! We had a short wait for a walk-in and Dr. Campbell was SO sweet to my large size puppy and let me know that the poor baby had gotten 2! nasty ear infections and the swelling was a hematoa. They did a couple tests, cleaned his ears, gave him his meds and gave him back to me as happy as can be! They sent us home with a medicine cabinet of medicine to help him feel and get better and IT DIDNT BREAK MY BANK! I had expected to go in there and spend a couple hundred dollars, but I only spent $170 for ALL the meds and ALL the work done to him while we were there! It was a quick visit. My puppy wasn't traumatized by the vet experience. And it was extremely reasonably priced. Plus the staff is wonderful! Super Plus? My puppy looks and is acting SO much better, his ears are getting better (which in turn his coat has gotten a million times better as well!). I am so thankful for Dr. Campbell and the staff at San Marcos Vet Clinic. We will be in with all 3 of our pups for their regular care =) 5++++ Stars!"

In one visit, Dr. Ichord was able to diagnose what had been plaguing our doodle for the previous year and a half and was undiagnosed by multiple vets. Dr. Ichord is a well-trained vet that is honest and gives multiple options as to how to proceed. We unfortunately see Dr. Ichord more than we would like, but we know that whenever we go to the clinic, we're working with a great vet who treats animals with love, compassion, and respect."

"We have been very pleased with the treatment our pets have received with Dr. Ichord. The gentleness and care given at each visit has been consistent with Dr. Ichord and his staff. About a year ago, one of our dogs became quite ill and even though it was a few minutes before closing time when I called, they told me to bring her right in. "I can't say enough good things about this Dr. Ichord and his staff. Staff is very friendly and always accommodating even on short notice. Appointments are always on time, Dr Ichord is very personable, but also very thorough and informative. As pet owners we are all concerned about a vet constantly trying to "sell" service exploiting our care for our pets. Dr. Ichord is the opposite, will be honest with you and if you do not need to have your pet treated for something he will tell you that. On top of all that, their prices are very fair and reasonable. "I highly recommend this veterinarian!! My Mom referred me to this vet because he is the first one she trusts after years of veterinary experiences. I brought my cat to him for some testing to see what was wrong with her and he took care of everything with a very reasonable & affordable price as opposed to a place in Murrieta that wanted to charge me an astronomical amount just to get a diagnosis. On top of that, the vet tech in Murrieta told me not to refrigerate my cat's antibiotic (even though I specifically asked that question), so I didn't. Then, when I brought my cat and her antibiotic to this San Marcos office, they noticed her medicine was a funny color & had gone bad due to not being refrigerated. Even though I live about an hour away, I will bring my cat to this office whenever possible."

"I called this office with a question about a product that is not sold in regular pet supply stores. (i.e. Petco, Petsmart, etc...) I had called three or more other offices before I called San Marcos Veterinary Clinic, and had also searched the internet for any help, with no prevail. The man who answered the phone had never heard of the product before, but took down the name and my number so he could ask the veterinarian when he or she returned. I missed his first call, but he was kind enough to call me again just a few minutes before they closed the office with VERY useful information. To sum up my experience with this location, the people at this clinic genuinely care for animals and provided me with assistance when no one else could. Great service and knowledgeable veterinarians!"

"This past week I had to take my dogs in for a check up because my one dog had been scratching her ears non stop. I called the office and the person said that I could bring them in asap if I wanted too. My dog had been whining since 4 am that morning, so I did. The vet was so cool she met me at the reception area and brought the dogs in to give them a check up. My dogs were very scared to be there, which was apparent by their behavior . The vet sat on the floor with them to get them comfortable and then did the check up. She was gentle and caring and she took care of them. I was very pleased. I admit it was different from other vet experience, in other offices, which I have experienced in the past. The other offices seem to have been very sterile and conforming. This doctor was so caring and I would for sure bring them back to this vet office. Thank you and I appreciate a caring doctor with very reasonable rates."
